Getting to know Alta Valtellina surely also includes the local cuisine. Pizzoccheri, a buckwheat pasta, topped with casera and bitto cheese, Savoy cabbage and butter, and sciatt, morsels of melted cheese. Then there’s polenta taragna, venison and roe, and cured meats such as bresaola and slinzega. Delicious and robust dishes of Valtellina’s cuisine, rustic flavours and energy-rich dishes convey that concept of strength that Bormio expresses through its history and that of the Alpine territory of the upper valley.

You can enjoy the food that once nourished the locals and the many travellers who crossed the Stelvio Pass, now on the traditional menus of the restaurants of Bagni di Bormio, as well as the many local restaurants and mountain lodges found while touring Bormio and the alpine territory in which it is immersed.
